Cultural Humility and Responsive Practice in SUD Group Counseling
A practical, skills-focused continuing education course for SUD counselors who facilitate groups. The course emphasizes cultural humility, communication, group safety, language access, inclusive structure, respectful accountability, culturally responsive adaptation of counseling skills, and recovery capital.

Learning objectives
- Distinguish cultural competence, cultural humility, and culturally responsive practice in SUD group counseling.
- Identify how culture, communication, stigma, language, power, trauma, and prior system experiences can influence group participation.
- Use counselor self-awareness to reduce assumptions, stereotyping, and premature clinical labeling.
- Apply inclusive group structure, participation options, and communication strategies without weakening clinical expectations.
- Respond to stereotypes, cultural conflict, and facilitator mistakes in ways that protect dignity, safety, accountability, and learning.
- Identify cultural and community strengths that can function as recovery capital and incorporate them into group planning.

When production launch controls are authorized, certificate eligibility will require completion of all modules, all required application checks, a passing final-exam score, the course evaluation, and the learner attestation.
