Group Facilitation for SUD Counselors
This course develops practical group-leadership skill for SUD settings by focusing on structure, therapeutic process, participation, difficult dynamics, safety, boundaries, cultural responsiveness, and role-appropriate intervention.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
Learning objectives
- Differentiate common SUD group purposes and select facilitation strategies that fit the group’s purpose and stage.
- Establish and maintain group agreements, psychological safety, participation expectations, and counselor role boundaries.
- Use facilitation skills that deepen useful member-to-member interaction rather than turning the group into serial individual counseling.
- Respond to silence, monopolizing, conflict, cross-talk, advice-giving, disengagement, and emotionally charged moments without shaming participants.
- Integrate cultural responsiveness, trauma-informed pacing, accessibility, and confidentiality reminders into routine group leadership.
- Use co-facilitation, post-group reflection, consultation, and concise documentation to improve quality and manage risk.

A minimum score of 80%—16 of 20 correct—is required.
Learner feedback is required before the completion workflow can advance.
The learner must electronically attest that they personally completed the required course activities and assessments.

The cumulative final contains 20 scored questions. The passing standard is 80% (16/20).

CERTIFICATE & PROVIDER STATUS
Certificate release remains disabled
When production launch controls are authorized, certificate eligibility will require completion of all modules, all required application checks, a passing final-exam score, the course evaluation, and the learner attestation.
